Men 'Astonishingly' More Stupid Than Women, According to Science
A new research might put an end to the battle of the sexes as it shows that men are definitely more stupid than women.
A team of all-male researchers from Newcastle University tested the 'Male Idiot Theory' by examining sex differences in "idiot risk-taking behaviour" among Darwin Award nominees over a period of 20 years.
The study of the Darwin Awards, which is an annual review (for 20 years) of the most foolish way people have died, revealed that around 90 percent of the people were males.
The study is named after Charles Darwin and recognizes those who helped improving the gene pool by killing themselves by "astonishingly stupid methods", the research team wrote in the annual issue of the British Medical Journal named - 'The Darwin Awards: sex differences in idiotic behaviour'.
"Idiotic risks are defined as senseless risks, where the apparent payoff is negligible or non-existent, and the outcome is often extremely negative and often final," the study stated, CNBC reports.
It further reveals that many of the differences in the risk-seeking behaviour, emergency department admissions and mortality may be explained by the simple observation that men are idiots and idiots do stupid things.
One of the worthy candidates was a man stealing a ride home by hitching a shopping trolley to the back of a train which ended up killing him after it dragged him two miles. There was another terrorist who opened his own letter bomb after it was returned to him because he had posted it without the required number of stamps.
Dr Dennis Lendrem, of the University of Newcastle, said: "Idiotic risks are defined as senseless risks, where the apparent payoff is negligible or non-existent, and the outcome is often extremely negative and often final... There are anecdotal data supporting MIT, but to date there has been no systematic analysis of sex differences in idiotic risk taking behaviour."
He further said that an honourable mention of one candidate is necessary who allegedly slipped when using a belt sander as an auto erotic device and lost a testicle.
