The crazy popularity of the HBO fantasy drama "Game of Thrones" is truly unparalleled as no other show has been able to gain that kind of fandom, in the present times.

What is more, it has brought fame to the various cities of Europe, where the show was shot and the most recent location to join the list is Girona, an ancient town in the northeast corner of Spain. It will feature prominently in the sixth season, slated to air from April 24, Sunday.

According to reports, viewers will get a fine glimpse of the beauty hidden in this quiet old city whose history is 2,000 years old. It is home to grand architectural wonders as the landscape is dotted with high-walled fortresses, churches and towers that are related to three of the oldest religions of the world namely, Christianity, Judaism and Islam. The cobblestone streets and the archaic buildings truly make for a visual feast.

The locations of the city have where the show was shot includes the Girona Cathedral, which is a mix of Roman, Gothic and Baroque architecture. The nearby Cathedral Museum also makes its presence felt along with its small Jewish quarter. The Arab baths, notable for their Moorish architecture too make a fine show.

But the imposing walls of the city, dating back to thirteenth century take away the cake, with their grim and cold appearance. The medieval town is sure to stir up the interest of the travelers as it has done for Northern Ireland, Croatia and Seville in the past.

Girona is a delight for history and architecture lovers as it is steeped in the glory and grandeur of the past, from head to toe. Even otherwise, it has lots to offer and tourism is bound to receive an upshot once the coming season starts airing.

As for the show, the curiosity factor is still intact and it must be said that HBO has done a good job at preventing spoilers. So, till Sunday, it is a game of keeping fingers crossed.
