As everyone knows, Chelsea is poised to go on a major rebuilding phase in this year's summer transfer window and having already appointed a mananger for the new season in Italian Antonio Conte, they are now looking to acquire the right players so that they can put up a credible challenge on all fronts in the 2016-17 season. The club has targeted a raft of players for a variety of positions and one of the players who they are intent on acquiring seems to be Atletico Madrid's French forward Antoine Griezemann, who was a Chelsea targed in the summer of 2015 as well. Griezemann has been one of the biggest stars for Atletico Madrid this season for the Spanish club, who are currently level on points with league leaders Barcelona in their quest for the La Liga title and have advanced to the semi final of the UEFA Champions League where they will Bayern Munich.

Griezemann, who scored twice in the second leg of the semi final against Barcelona, has scored a total of 29 goals this season and is currently regarded as one of the best young forwards in Europe at the moment. Chelsea might decide to offload former Atletico Madrid striker Deigo Costa and that might open up a space for Griezemann in the squad. In fact, there are strong rumours that Costa might go to Atletico and if that happens then there is every possibility of the Frenchman heading the other way. A fee has still not been decided but it is a safe assumption that it would have to be a generous if Chelsea are to get their man.

Additionally, Griezemann is currently the star at one of the best sides in Europe while Chelsea cannot offer Champions League football next season owing to their horrible season in 2015-16 and that could prove to be a stumbling block in any negotiations. As of now, the player is completely devoted to Atletico Madrid as they chase both domestic and European glory and any deal for him could mean a long drawn out negotiation during the summer.
