Manchester United's long serving central midfielder Michael Carrick could finally be heading out of the door at Old Trafford as per the latest developments and according to latest reports, Everton might be interested in his services should he decide to stay in the English Premier League. The central midfielder, who has been one of the best central midfielders in the English Premier League for many years, signed a one year extension with his current employers at the start of the 2015-16 season but a further extension might not be on the cards as Manchester United believe they need to replace the 34 year old who might now be past his best.

Carrick is one of the highest paid players in the Manchester United squad and the powers that be at the club are looking to cut some of the wage bill so that they are able to go on the planned squad overhaul in the summer following an eminently disappointing league campaign. However, Everton manager Roberto Marinez has been a long time admirer of the Englishman and has instructed the transfer fixers at the Merseyside club to enquire about a possible move in the summer. Although it is true that Carrick is on a considerably high wage at United, the fact that he would be available for free is an added incentive for Everton who have a history of signing older players from Manchester United.

It is however important to note that Everton is not the only club who is after Carrick. Arsenal and West Ham are both interested in taking him to London and in the end it might come down to Carrick's own preference. Michael Carrick has no intention of going to the United States in the twilight of his top flight career and wants to live in England and play for another Premier League club before deciding his next move. Carrick had to say this regarding his present situation, "I am not sure yet to be honest. I haven't heard anything just at the moment.Hopefully some time soon. I have been here a long time, I have had some great times here and I love the club. It's a great place to play."
