With the acquisition of Quest Visual - maker of WordLens app that translates words and signs written in one language into another - Google made intentions clear to make Google Translate more powerful.

Seems like the next update of Google Translate is set to make this intention even more clear. According to a leaked version of Google Translate, the app is capable of translating words and signs written in one language into another through simply pointing at the words using the smartphone camera.

The feature works exactly like the one in WordLens, which can be downloaded free from the Google Play store.

The unreleased version of Google Translated was acquired by Android Police. For now the Live Translate feature is expected to work for English, French, Italian, German, Russian, Portuguese and Spanish.

The current version of the Google Translate allows people to use conversation mode that helps them understand the words being spoken in real time. However, users are required to manually change the language for each sequence.

There is no confirmation on the release of the updated app yet, but Android Police added that the unreleased version is almost complete and may be included in the next major update.
