Impressive fan-made tributes of iconic classic games seem to be going through a lot of rough ride this year. Just a few months ago, a fan legacy version of the original 1998 'Metal Gear Solid' classic was forced offline as reported by International Business Times. Similarly, the browser-based 3D remake of 'Legend of Zelda' game called 'Zelda 30 Tribute' was shut down at the threatening request of its original creator, Nintendo.

Some diehard fans of the game took it upon themselves the task of recreating a commemorative version that would supposedly walk people down the memory lane as a fitting tribute to the game's 30th anniversary. However, even such fandom did not dampen Nintendo's resolve to get the game cancelled citing copyright infringement such as the use of characters and design of the levels as reported by Eurogamer.

Following Nintendo's warning, the creators backed won and woefully announced the project's shutdown.

"We're sad about that, but we get it. We started this project because we love Nintendo and the joy they have given us throughout the years. From the start of development, we knew this result could potentially happen. Nintendo has every right to protect their IP. No complaints from us, we had a blast working on this tribute and made some friends along the way," wrote the creators in their official Facebook page announcement as quoted by Techno Buffalo.

Despite being a little crude with Spartan-like attributes, the browser-based game still managed to attract more half a millions fans to their site and immersed in a gaming experience that offered a lot of resemblance to the original game.

Interestingly, Scott Lininger and Mike Magee, the developers behind the fan-based remake, remained cool about the whole situation with Nintendo understanding that their project was already doomed for an inevitable shutdown right from the start.

Meanwhile, Nintendo's Legend of Zelda is slated to be released sometime this year.
