During the first of their short three-day visit to New York, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge stopped by the Barclays Center in Brooklyn to catch an NBA game between the Brooklyn Nets and Cleveland Cavaliers.

The British royals, Prince William and Kate Middleton, reportedly received a standing ovation as they walked to their seats seven minutes into the third quarter, according to the Business Recorder. The couple was shown on the overhead scoreboard during a stoppage of play. Kate, wearing a grey jacket, waved to the camera as the crowd cheered wildly.

It would seem that William and Kate were not the only famous couple watching the game. Music power couple Beyonce and Jay-Z, possibly the closest thing America has to royalty of its own, were also in the bleachers. They walked across the court to meet the royal visitor in the second half, writes NDTV.

This meeting between the two famous couples generated much excitement among the audience. Fans milled around the famous four, paying more attention to them than the ongoing game.

William and Kate also posed backstage with LeBron James, who steered Cleveland Cavaliers to victory, holding the team's jersey.

According to First Post, James had said that playing with William and Kate in the audience would be "a huge honor."

Before attending the game, William visited the White House to visit with U.S. President Barack Obama while Kate volunteered at The Harlem Children's Center.

The Duke and Duchess' itinerary in New York includes a visit to the National Sept. 11 Memorial and Museum, a visit to showcase arts education at a youth organization, and a black-tie fundraiser for their alma mater, the University of St. Andrews.
