Blade Runner 2 is generating quite a lot of excitement lately with the latest addition of Robin Wright who is slated to play a key role alongside Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling in a much-awaited sequel to Alcon Entertainment's 1982 sci-fi film 'Blade Runner'.

The planned sequel to the 1982 masterpiece has long been gestating. Nevertheless, the production is keen on adding more talent before releasing it for public viewing. Harrison Ford will reprise his role as Rick Deckard with Ryan Gosling on board.

Robin Wright, a House of Cards actress, will rid herself of Claire Underwood's savvy backhanded political antics in the TV series in a switch to a more power-kicking role in the sci-fi sequel. The confirmation of her role was already rumored for weeks as negotiations with Wright's schedule for the Netflix series continued. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the negotiations are currently in the final stages so the likelihood of her joining the cast is increasingly certain.

Apart from her hectic House of Cards schedule, Wright is also busy filming in the DC Comics-based Wonder Woman movie where she assumes the role of the heroine's aunt, General Antiope.

The movie is set in a dystopian society where agents are trained to track and hunt down people believed to be genetically engineered. As reported by GQ Magazine, details of the plot are extremely scarce but the story line could be set decades after original film with Gosling playing a lead role in the sci-fi thriller. Ford's cult-classic character Deckard remains hazy for now.

Backed by Alcon Entertainment, Ridley Scott is the executive producer with Sicario's Denis Villenueve as the director. Hampton Fancher, the original movie's screenwriter, is in charge of the script according to a report by Paste Magazine.

The movie is slated to hit the theaters on January 12, 2018 with the filming expected to start in summer this year.
