Hadfield, who has a distinctive military moustache, is one of the most popular-if not the most popular- astronauts in the world. In 2013, Forbes magazine described him as "perhaps the most social media savvy astronaut ever to leave Earth." He has built a considerable audience on social media; he has a Twitter account that he posts on a daily basis and also a popular Tumblr blog too. On Twitter, he currently has more than 1.2 million followers and he also created one of the top Reddit Ask Me Anything threads of all time.

He has gained more popularity among young people perhaps due to his "social media savvy" personality. During his mission "Expedition 35," Hadfield was the commander of the International Space Station, the first time a Canadian to held the post. He frequently updated his Twitter and posted spacewalk selfies online. Hadfield also shared stunning pictures of the Earth from space along with videos of himself playing David Bowie songs.

The Canadian Astronaut gave a speech on Sunday, at an event at the Royal Geographical Society in London. Hadfield expressed that he does not support the current ongoing debate about sending people to Mars. He thinks it is too early for that."If we started going to Mars any time soon everybody would die. We don't know what we are doing yet. We have to have a bunch of inventions between now and Mars," The Guardian reported.

Last week NASA launched the Orion spacecraft as a part of new series of manned space missions for which Hadfield was eager to praise the engineers for their creation. Even though he agrees that the spacecraft is a great vehicle, he seems to be more concerned about what to do with it. He added "But where we are going to go next is the moon. That's where we are going to because it just makes sense. It is only three days aways and we can invent so many things," according to the Guardian.
