Rumor has it that "Grand Theft Auto" franchise will move out of United States territory and into the Land of the Rising Sun - Japan. However, the rumor seems unfounded as the game is already in development stage.

The much awaited GTA VI is now in its development phase and its location still remains a mystery, flogging the previous rumors that the game is set in Japan.

AN anonymous source says that RockStar games once had a plan of setting a full "Grand Theft Auto" instalment in Tokyo, Japan. The Rockstar reportedly also sent its location scouting team to get more information about the area, like taking images of the region while making important research that would be required in the game.

The plans go all the way back to "GTA III" and "GTA: Vice City" period when Rockstar really wanted to execute a GTA conceptualized in Japan. However, by the looks of it, the plan seems to have been floored due to existing road systems of the country as being the main reason for canceling its development in Japan.

Another reason attributed to scrapping the idea of moving the entire game to a new location is that the existent inventory belongs to U.S., its culture and eccentricities. It will be too much work to take the game to another country and changing it completely to fir into the new culture and surrounding.

In fact, Rockstar according to an insider tip, the game developers are already in the process of developing a new sequel, "GTA VI." The game is in its early stages and the location of the game is still not known. They are yet to roll out an official announcement about the game.
