Miami Open Masters 2016 Results: Victoria Azarenka and Novak Djokovic enters Semi-Finals

Victoria Azarenka and Novak Djokovic enters Miami Open Semi-Finals

Victoria Azarenka continued her undefeated run in the Miami Open as she defeated Johanna Konta.

She registered a straight set 6-4, 6-2 win against Konta in the quarterfinals match. She has set herself some high standards throughout the tournament. Azarenka is a two time Grand Slam champion. Meanwhile another tournament favourite Serena Williams was sent packing home in the fourth round making Azarenka's path much easier. She will be facing No. 2-seeded Angelique Kerber in the semi-finals. Angelique Kerber had defeated No. 22 Madison Keys who was the last American in the draw 6-3, 6-2.However No. 15 Svetlana Kuznetsova will be playing against No. 19 Timea Bacsinszky in second semi-final.

Azarenka is on her way to become the third women to win both Indian Wells and Key Biscayne in the same year. The other two players are Steffi Graf and Kim Clijsters. Azarenka commented that

"If I'm able to make it, it's great" "It seems so close, but it's really far. I want to stay in the present. I want to continue to fight and keep getting better."

However in the men's singles the top seeded Novak Djokovic crushed the challenge of No. 7-seeded Tomas Berdych in a straight set encounter of 6-3, 6-3. Meanwhile the fifteenth seeded David Goffin overcame past No. 18 Gilles Simon in a close encounter of 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 in the quarterfinals. By achieving this win he became the first Belgian to reach the men's semi-final of Miami open. He will be facing Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals.

Djokovic has moved a step closer towards achieving his sixth Key Biscayne men's title. It if he manages to do so, he will be tied with Andre Agassi's record and would be his third title. With his win over Berdych he has extended his record to 20-0 against him in hard courts. Later after the match Djokovic blamed the swirling wind. However he was pretty happy with his performance in the match.
