Season 5 of the political thriller drama, "Scandal" is smoldering with action and the plot is only going to get more interesting in the coming days.

As of now, things are pretty heated up. President Fitzgerald Grant will be leaving the White House in a few days and the primary race for the office has almost begun. Secrets are tumbling out of the mansion and each character is having their fair share of drama. Tension is at an all time high with everyone facing some or other trouble.

However, the most surprising event was the exit of Cyrus from the Oval Office. It is just impossible to imagine the White House without its Chief of Staff. But more astonishing than Cyrus' firing was his plan to make Francisco Vargas- Pennsylvania's Governor, the Democratic presidential candidate. A complete knockout, it was really mind-blowing.

As for Olivia, she turned to her dad for advice regarding Governor Vargas' brother and Susan Ross, and he discouraged her from hurting someone who has been harmless to her. Papa Pope has again proved what a mastermind he is, as it was revealed that he is supporting Edison for president.

Mellie Grant, the First lady, has the worst going on for her as she has completely failed to create the right image for herself. At Gettysburger, she was doing everything quite well until that foible. She said that she visits the establishment every Sunday, which is the day when it is closed.

She was also caught unawares in case of tycoon Hollis Doyle, who is now in the Republican race. The anti-immigration, anti-feminist, gun-wielding conservative has stolen a good deal of limelight, but it cannot be said if the public will choose him over Mellie.

As for Vice President Susan Ross, her prospects are already dim and with the secret from the past looming large over her career, it might prove to be the last nail in her coffin.

To see how events unfold, catch up with the coming episodes, airing every Thursday, at 9 p.m.
