NFL Rumors: Ryan Fitzpatrick Leaving NY Jets For Denver Broncos

The New York Jets seems to have not gotten out from the quarterback drama last season. After ditching Geno Smith for Ryan Fitzpatrick last year, the NFL team seemed to have been satisfied with the latter's performance. In the rankings, Fitzpatrick remained supreme but Smith was not so far behind him in the previous season.

Currently, it's Fitzpatrick's turn to fall out with the Jets over a number of contract issues. Thorny details in the negotiations are still largely unresolved as the team and the famed QB try to outsmart each other.

As reported by Chat Sports, the Jets reportedly offers $7 million to $9 million which the 33-year-old QB rejects. Instead, Fitzpatrick demands $16 million for him to stay.

So instead of sacrificing a sizeable salary cap space for Fitzpatrick, Jets is reportedly opting for a more economical option- getting Smith back his old job.

"I wasn't here when Geno was a starter, but Geno did have a very good offseason for us last year. At the time of the whole incident, [he] was technically ahead of Ryan going into preseason. We never had the benefit of Geno working through the preseason, competing with Ryan, to see how that would've unfolded. That incident, when it happened, it was very unfortunate because we felt Geno had a very good offseason that year," said NY Jets Mike Macagnan as quoted by Gospel Herald.

Now that Fitzpatrick and the Jets are nowhere close to finalizing a re-sign agreement, the veteran quarterback is reportedly searching for greener pastures. If reports prove accurate, Denver Broncos just might be the team Fitzpatrick could end up with.

As for the Denver Broncos, the team is desperately in need for quarterback to pick up the slack after a rough offseason, the Inquistr reported. Former QB opted not to stay and instead jumped ship to Houston Texans. Another QB material, Peyton Manning, had chosen to bid farewell for a quiet retirement. Broncos General Manager John Elway attempted a first aid by acquiring former Philadelphia Eagles backup quarterback Mark Sanchez. Without a highly-experienced and skilled quarterback, Broncos may be diving in for further dismal performance in the next season.
