A new budget handset from Samsung is reportedly coming to the US this year. Galaxy J1 has already arrived in Russia more than a week ago and is gradually making headway to other markets worldwide. If rumors prove right, we could find Galaxy J1 on AT&T's upcoming handset offerings.

Although the report remains unconfirmed, known tech leaker Evan Blass (@evleaks) tweeted a rendered photo of the entry-level handset with a caption that says that the new Samsung phone is set to hit the US shores through network carrier AT&T as reported by Ubergizmo.

Although no official press release from either Samsung or AT&T mentioned of the purported carrier branding of the budget handset, there are persistent rumors that the network might start offering the phone by April 1.

Galaxy J1 is lower tier smartphone powered by quad-core Exynos processor at 1.3 GHz with 1GB of RAM. Its storage offering is a meager 8 GB. However, an expandable memory compensates for the small internal memory thanks largely to its microSD slot.

As reported by Parent Herald, J1 comes in black, gold, and white options although question remains whether all three colors are available through AT&T. It is also equipped with a 4.5-inch AMOLED screen with a 480 X 800 display, a 2MP front-facing camera, a 5MP rear camera, a plastic casing, and 2050 mAH battery. The device currently runs on Android Lollipop OS.

As for the pricing, J1 is likely to sell for $120 when it starts to hit the US market according to International Business Times.

The Galaxy J series amplifies Samsung's attempt to grab a sizeable chunk of prepared market especially in large emerging markets like China and India. Other models for the Galaxy J lineup also include a slew of other 2016 models such as the J3, J5, and J7. So far, a handful of these models have already reached Europe and India.
