There is not much information about "Star Wars Episode VIII" except what we learn from "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." Perhaps there would be answers about the enigmatic past of Adam Driver's Kylo Ren and Daisy Ridley's Rey. Still, it would be useful to watch the movie so that we can understand some answers to questions left ambiguous or unanswered. For instance, why did Kylo Ren turn to the Dark Side? Who and where are Rey's parents?

Perhaps director Rian Johnson is planning to introduce some new elements into "Episode VIII" and one of those is actress Laura Dern, cast in a mystery role much earlier this year.

It is not clear which character or role she is playing, whether she connects to "The Force Awakens" or not.

There are some details regarding Dern's character and Oscar Isaac's Poe Dameron that are rumoured.

"In one of the scenes shot in this stage, a rag-tag group of Resistance fighters have seen some battle," the report reads. "Cut and bruised, they and Poe Dameron are on this ship when Laura Dern is playing some sort of captain or officer. She tells the fighters that they are the last of the rebellion/resistance (I'm unclear on the exact phrasing of the line, so no capitalizing the Resistance) and that Princess Leia has been gravely injured and is receiving medical attention."

The report says that Poe "holds Dern's character at blaster point", even as they offload the crew from the work stations.

It is also not clear whether Dern is hostile or an ally with some half-knowledge. Poe takes command of the situation by force, but there is only some information about it. Speculations are that Leia would be following Han Solo to the "great Jedi Temple" in the sky.

While it is not a confirmed rumour, it is the first to come to the surface. It involves Dern in a "non-wish based casting", which might put her in the role of Rey's mother and/or Luke Skywalker's wife.

"Star Wars: Episode VIII" will be released on Dec. 15, 2017.
