Co-creator Steven Moffat acknowledged that the new season of Sherlock will exceed expectations and qualify as a better season as opposed to the predecessor. In addition, the abode of the lead hero had been disclosed.

Moffat claims that they have had a strategy to top their game, which would be a savage twist to the show's existing plotline. On the reveal of the plot, the cast is said to have been moved to tears. He suggests that the cast had always been thrilled given the fact that the show is not solely about Sherlock.

In May 2015, in the BAFTA press conference Moffat is claimed to have announced about the commencement of the production of season four in the spring of 2016. The co-creator is said to have commented that he is interested to see the turmoil the fans are going to experience as the show proceeds in the forthcoming episodes of the new season. According to Digital Spy, the fans are going to be awestruck until season five.

The fans have been awarded a sneak peek into the behind the scenes magic from the sets of the season four of "Sherlock" by the production designer Arwel Wyn. Jones took to social media to disclose the same. However, the image that has received worldwide attention is the one in which the residence of Sherlock and his friend Dr. John Watson is on display. The image of the wallpaper that they would be working with for the filming of "Sherlock" season four was shared by the production designer himself. The production of the season is said to begin in spring 2016.

The new season is expected to premiere in early 2017 on BBC. For the moment, the DVD of the New Year special of the show has been released this year in the month of January.
