If you suffer from pimples and allergies, it is time to consider changing pillows.

Researchers say that a third of your pillow might house bugs, dust mites, their faeces and dead skin.

Around 20 percent people suffer from allergies, and of those who do, around two-thirds may be allergic to the types of dust mites found indoors, according to The Huffington Post. For this, you need to change your pillows every 6 months. This will help avoid pimples and painful allergies.

"People talk about how nasty a mattress gets," Dr Robert Oexman, director of the Sleep to Live Institute in Mebane, North Carolina, said, reports Medical Daily. He also said that people generally forget about where they lay their heads night after night.

Dr Oexman told The HuffPost that people who do not change their pillows are risking their facial appearance by pushing their faces against all sorts of nasty things like dead skin cells, bodily oils, dirt, and mites.

Not only this, pillows that are used more than half a year can also lead to or worsen asthma and allergic reactions.

Dr Mark Neustrom, an allergist & immunologist at Kansas City Allergy and Asthma Associates explains that that two out of three people suffering allergies might also be allergic to dust mites that hide underneath the carpets and bedding. If people have stronger allergy reactions in the morning and at night, this might indicate that it is time to change the pillows.

Dr Oexman said washing bed linens and pillows and tumbling it completely dry can also be effective in preventing pimples, allergies or asthma attacks, The Daily Mail reports.
