Dozens of charred bodies of children riddled with bullets scatter all around after the radical Islamist group Boko Haram stormed and set ablaze a village in Nigeria's northeast.

The mass killings resulting to the deaths of 86 people including children occurred Saturday as scores of Boko Haram fighters indiscriminately fired at locals in the village of Dalori some seven miles from city of Maiduguri known as the birthplace of the extremist organization.

The group also reportedly attempted to break into a refugee camp close to the place of the attack but were eventually repelled by security forces after hours of carnage.

"They came in Golf saloon cars and began to shoot sporadically. Many people ran to the bush including myself. When we came back in the morning the entire community had been razed. At least 50 people were killed, and there are many people wounded," recalled Dalori village leader Malam Masa as quoted saying by The Guardian.

According to a Yahoo News report, 86 corpses were recovered from the scene by the National Emergency Management Agency. The State Specialist Hospital in the northeastern city of Maiduguri also confirmed 62 injured receiving treatment for burns and gunshot wounds.

Boko Haram has been one of the most notorious Islamist organizations espousing violence-driven radical version of Islam that's currently responsible for the deaths of 6,644 people in 2014 alone according to Global Terrorism Index as mentioned in a report by CNN.

The group is seeking to assert a Sharia-inspired political system in Nigeria- a nation divided along religious lines with a Muslim-dominated north and Christian-dominated south.
