An American teacher, a mother of twins, was killed in a restroom of a mall in Abu Dhabi Monday, according to  police.

This follows a mysterious posting on a jihadist website encouraging people to attack teachers of American schools in the Middle East. The United States embassies in the region had issued a cautionary warning about the posts.

The U.S. Embassy confirmed that an American citizen had been killed in a public restroom at a shopping mall on Reem Island Monday and said it was in touch with "all appropriate authorities" investigating the matter, reports NBC.

The police said the 37-year-old victim was attacked with a sharp instrument after a fight. The attacker was dressed in black from head to foot and was wearing gloves, according to witnesses. A video grab of the incident shows a stalky person dressed in a burqa coming out of the restroom with people rushing out and pointing towards the aggressor. But the person walks into an elevator and is later seen hurrying out of the mall.

"The injured woman was immediately rushed to Sheikh Khalifa Medical City where she succumbed to the wounds she sustained in the attack," Abu Dhabi police said in a statement

Colonel Rashid Mohammad Borshid, head of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Abu Dhabi Police, said it was not clear what led to the attack in the women’s restroom. The victim's name was not released.

"The police are investigating to uncover the crime’s causes and motives and to arrest the culprit," the colonel said, reports ABC News. Police are taking care of the victim’s 11-year-old twins. "The Community Police will be providing the children with shelter and other needs pending the arrival of their father (the victim’s ex-husband) from abroad. The father will be received by the Community Police, who will also cater to the needs of the victim’s family.”
