The Ohio man who fatally shot his teenage son, thinking he was an intruder, will not be facing any charges, according to Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph Deters.

Deters has stated that all of the forensic evidence checks out along with the father's account of the incident.

"There is only one word for this - tragedy," Deters said reported by ABC News. "It is impossible to imagine how horrible this father must feel for mistaking his son for an intruder."

The prosecutor detailed the events that led up to the unfortunate shooting. According to Deters, the 72-year-old father thought that his son, Georta Mack, was on the bus to school. The man had even spoken with his son to confirm that he had gotten on the school bus.

After the phone call and during school hours, the man heard a noise in the basement of his Cincinnati home. He grabbed his .45 caliber handgun and then proceeded to investigate the noise.

The father told the police that he was surprised by Georta, who jumped out of nowhere and allegedly screamed, "Boo!" The father, who reacted quickly, pulled the trigger and shot his son in the neck.

In the phone call to the police, the man had said, ""He scared me! I thought he was in school. I heard noise, so I went downstairs looking and he jumped out at me. .... Oh, God. Get here quick!"

He can also be heard saying, according to the Washington Post, "Oh God, why didn't you go to school?"

The teen later died at the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.

The investigation concluded that Georta had told his father he was going to school but never got on the bus.
