New York Knicks forward Cleanthony Early was shot in the leg early Wednesday morning in what appeared to be a targeted and coordinated robbery.

According to several media outlets that cited police sources, Early, 24, and his girlfriend had left the CityScapes gentlemen's club located on 58th street in Maspeth, Queens, when masked men came and demanded Early to hand over everything he had. One of the men shot him in the leg before leaving the scene. The shooting occurred at 4:15 a.m.

Early and his girlfriend were in an Uber car about one mile away from the club when they got boxed in by three other vehicles. Three men, two of whom had guns, approached the car and pulled Early out. They then demanded him to give them everything he had.

Early gave then cash, his iPhone 6 and jewelry, which included gold necklaces and gold teeth caps. The Uber driver was also robbed.

Early was initially taken to Elmhurst hospital before he was transported to another facility. His injury is not life threatening.

Upon hearing the news, the Knicks released this statement:

"We are aware of what occurred with Cleanthony Early this morning and are relieved that he is not in a life-threatening situation. We will not comment any further until we receive more information."

Early's teammate, Kristaps Porzingis, tweeted a photo with a caption that read, "Prayers for my brother."

In this season so far, Early, who was drafted in 2014, has played in 10 games and is averaging less than one point.
