Cam Newton, the man behind the Carolina Panthers' undefeated season, took the time to give back to his community once again.

The quarterback surprised a group of fourth- and fifth-graders in Charlotte, North Carolina, who thought that they were going to the Dick's Sporting Goods store for a normal holiday-themed field trip.

Once the kids, who were selected based on their behavior or grades, arrived at the store, they were instructed to grab a camping chair and sit. Little did they know, however that their real surprise was Newton, who came out, grabbed a chair and sat with them.

Newton chatted with the children and even stayed as the children received a $200 gift certificate to buy presents.

"There were still some kids in shock that Cam Newton was in a lawn chair in front of them," Gina Salvati, the vice president of advancement at Communities in Schools, said, reported by ESPN.com. "But then, the excitement just filled the room."

Communities in Schools is the program that organized the entire event.

Salvati added, "Cam has -- and I don't know if the world knows this -- a genuine heart for kids. It's not just about the press or what he's supposed to do. It's about the way he wants to support kids and the way he wants them to be supported. Many of our kids really feel apart from the world; this is the way our kids can feel part of the world beyond their street."

One of Newton's teammates also praised his volunteer work.

"He's incredible with that, he's completely incredible," wide receive Jerricho Cotchery said. "Really he's a superstar, but the way he interacts with fans and kids is just an unbelievable deal. Some people are burdened by that, but he interacts with fans and children and it's cool to see."

Newton has been volunteering since he was in college. He also has a foundation titled the Cam Newton Foundation, which is focused on improving the lives of the youth.
