One killed and dozens were hurt after a woman intentionally drove her vehicle onto a sidewalk on the Las Vegas Strip on Sunday.

The incident occurred at around 6:40 p.m. near Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino, the hotel where the Miss Universe beauty pageant was taking place. The woman was driving up the Las Vegas Boulevard by the Bellagio Way when she swerved her car onto the crowded sidewalk.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Deputy Chief Brett Zimmerman told reporters that during the attack, the woman had deliberately driven her car, a 1996 four-door Oldsmobile with Oregon plates, onto the curb two to three times. The authorities estimated that 26 to 36 people were injured. Six were in critical condition but have since been stabilized and one adult died.

"This is a huge tragedy that has happened on our Strip," the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Lieutenant Peter Boffelli.

Zimmerman stated that the woman, who was in her 20s, had a three-year-old child in the car with her at the time of the attack. The child was unharmed. The woman, who was also unharmed, has been arrested and is being held in jail. The police interviewed the woman and tested her for any intoxicants.

"It was just massacring people," Justin Cochrane, who was having dinner, said reported by the New York Times. "I thought it's a crazy person."

Another eyewitness, Antonio Nassar told CNN affiliate KLAS, "The car rolled right in front of me. By the time I looked over to the right, all you could see was (her) driving away, and people were bouncing off the front of the car. She rode the sidewalk, she came to a stop at the Paris intersection, people are punching into the window. ... She accelerated again and just kept mowing people down."

Zimmerman did not provide a motive behind her attack but stated that the possibility of terrorism has been ruled out.

"We know this was not an act of terrorism," he said. "We will comb through that footage to get a detailed idea of what occurred. Right now from what we know, we're looking at it possibly being intentional."

The detectives are currently looking at footage.
