Die Hard franchise may have reeled at the domestic box office but it managed to rake in some profits globally. This shows that the world still cares about the movie, even when the latest, A Good Day to Die Hard in 2013, failed to leave an impact. While the Die Hard team still believes in its franchise, it will go backwards into the prequel mode rather than going forward. The new film will be about the origin of John McLane and his past life, reports Entertainment Weekly.

The new prequel is well under production and will take the viewers before its first installment released in 1988. However, is Bruce Willis going to be the young John McLane? While it is anticipated that he will be a part of the prequel but will only be closing the movie, introducing the earlier account of himself. Len Wiseman, who was associated with Live Free or Die Hard, is anticipated to be on board as a director and Lorenzo di Bonaventura is said to produce the film, as per Mirror.

Now the question is, who will play the young John McLane. Die Hard: Year One is reportedly taking on a newer and younger John McLane who will be seen fighting the goons and crimes of the 1970 New York. While the mantle will be passed on to a new actor, Willis will be seen mitigating the impact by filming a few scenes, responsibly passing on the mantle. There has been certain unrest amongst the fans for replacing Bruce Willis as John McLane. Unlike Bond movies where Ian Fleming's character was easily shifted from Sean Connery to Daniel Craig, Die Hard's McLane is Bruce Willis. If the new actor will be able to carry the weight of Bruce's awesomeness is yet to be seen, says the Atlantic.
