Ordering Pizza Makes Hospital Evict An 800-Pound Patient

Steven Assanti, of Cranston, Rhode Island, is 33 years old, but his body weight of nearly 800 pounds has made him go a bit over the limit. Strangely he has been forced to live inside his father's car after he was thrown out from Rhode Island Hospital for ordering a pizza.

Assanti got admitted in the hospital 80 days ago in order to get help to overcome his food cravings, reported the New York Daily News.

He had been aiming to lower his weight to 550 pounds, which was the maximum limit needed for gastric bypass surgery.

According to the rules of the hospital's weight-loss program, he was not allowed to order food from outside. Yet he violated the rule and got pizza delivered to him, which made the staff in the hospital throw him out.

But the hospital spokeswoman said he was discharged, not thrown out. Yet she did not comment further due to confidentiality laws, according to the New York Post.

"It's an addiction, and I realize that," Assanti confessed. "And it's a disease."

His father, Steven Veillette, explained that the son had to be kept in the van, as it would be harmful to his health to keep him inside the house. However, he agrees that the boy requires good care.

"He needs to be monitored, because if he's on his own...he's going to just blow up because he's uncontrollable when he's by himself because he's lonely," Veillette said, according to HNGN.

Social workers are trying to make Assanti stay at Kent Hospital, Rhode Island, for the weekend, and also move to an apartment complex in Massachusetts.
