The recent revelation made by a health specialist that the trendy top knot creates tension on hair follicles may lead to alopecia. For the image-conscious fashion enthusiasts, this comes as a bad news because this condition causes patches of baldness that can cause discomfort amongst these people. This is even more severe in the case of women, especially if they use weave and more so when the weave is neglected due to poor braiding, said Unilad.

The Simple Truth suggests that prevention is any day better than cure. So if you are looking to sport that knot, ensure that you do not make it too tight or you can risk losing your precious hair to the case of baldness as caused by these top knots.

The hipsters are recommended to exercise caution as the top knot bun has been increasingly attributed to the loss of hair, resulting in bald patches. Scientists call this condition as traction alopecia which is baldness caused by excessive pulling of the hair near forehead and temples. Dermatologist Sabra Sullivan said that "They're putting traction on the hair follicles that the hair is not really meant to take". The experts also warn that any hairstyle that involves tight pulling of hair can cause permanent damage. A hi-end stylist at New York's Donsuki Salon said that once the hair follicle is damaged, it will never grow back again, as reported by Metro.

Men have joined in on the trend only recently and will perhaps not notice it until it gets worse. The full impact of traction alopecia may not be visible for several years. You may enjoy the attention you are getting today, but this style does more harm than good, says E Online. If you still want to sport the top man bun, leave it loose enough for your follicles to breathe.
