Updates and rumors regarding "Winds of Winter," the sixth book of the series "A Song of Ice and Fire" written by George R.R. Martin have slowed down significantly over these past few weeks.

Although the reports claimed that the book will be released sometime next year, Martin has not talked about the book at all since revealing that Stannis Baratheon is alive.

Martin talked about Baratheon's fate back in August under the "Off to Spokane" post on his blog, "Not a Blog." A fan had written, "alright mr Martin, lets cut the crap, is Stannis alive or dead," to which Martin wrote back, "In my books? Alive, beyond a doubt."

In the HBO series, "Games of Thrones," which is adapted from Martin's books, Baratheon appeared to have died at the hands of Brienne of Tarth.

Since making the comment about Baratheon, Martin found the time to guest star in Syfy's "Z Nation." Martin played a zombie version of himself kidnapped by the Collector. Despite being captured, the undead Martin continued to work on his book.

"I just want to prove to my fans that even in the Zombie Apocalypse, the Song of Ice and Fire books will still come out!" Martin said.

Despite vocalizing his dedication to finishing the book, fans have been annoyed at the amount of time Martin has taken off between the fifth book, "A Dance of Dragons" and "Winds of Winter."

Now that "Games of Thrones" is all caught up with the fifth book, fans are expecting the show to diverge from Martin's vision even more. "Games of Thrones" season six, which would have ideally followed at least some of the plot lines from "Winds of Winter," have already starting filming.

Martin previously commented about the possibility that the books and the show will have different endings especially since the show is progressing a lot faster than his books. Right now, Martin says he does not know how he will be ending the series except that it will be bittersweet.

"Games of Thrones" returns in the spring of 2016. Fans are hoping that the book will be released before the season six premieres.
