Best-selling Author, Jackie Collins, passed away on September 19, 2015, after battling breast cancer secretly for over 6 years. Only her three daughters knew about Collins' terminal illness and her vow to keep it secret, details The Telegraph.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the family of the late 77-year-old author released a heart-wrenching statement on her passing away:

"It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the death of our beautiful, dynamic and one of a kind mother, Jackie Collins, who died of breast cancer today. She lived a wonderfully full life and was adored by her family, friends and the millions of readers who she has been entertaining for over four decades. She was a true inspiration, a trail blazer for women in fiction and a creative force. She will live on through her characters but we already miss her beyond words."

Days before her passing away, Jackie Collins was arduously promoting her latest book 'The Santangelos' with the usual rounds of book signings, magazine interviews, TV talk shows and more. The Santangelos is her latest book, the story revolves around the iconic family of Italian-American gangsters featuring a certain strong, fierce lady character Lucky Santangelo. According to Daily Mail, Jackie Collins revealed that if her book was ever adapted into a movie she would love it if Angelina Jolie would play the role of the strong matriarchal figure Lucky Satangelo, as she finds the actress absolutely fitting for the role.

The Santangelos is Collins' latest and the ninth instalment in her Santangelo novels series about the Italian-American gangster family, with the first of the series titled 'Chances' that was released in 1981.
