Color is very important to enhance the design of a home, and create the right vibrations in a room. "Color can either bring balance, harmony, and good energy," said Feng Shui expert Rodika Tchi, via Elle Decor. "Or it can create chaos and low energy in one's space.

"The use of color is very important in feng shui because each color is an expression of one of the five elements - wood, earth, fire, water, and metal. It can bring balance, harmony, and good energy to one's space."

"It is not just about the visual beauty, as I see so many beautiful interiors with very weak or even plain bad feng shui. It is about creating good energy that is needed, and this is where a skillful use of color brings enormous benefits - living in a space that has vibrant, healthy energy, and is nourishing for you and your relationships," he added.

It is important to check out some basic Feng Shui guidelines, also known as "bagua."

Yellow: The color of sunlight, it brings out a cozy and warm atmosphere that helps to light up a living room or a child's bedroom. Among children, it stokes brain activity and is the color of choice for children who suffer from dyslexia, according to Dyslexic Org.

Red: This "intense and vibrant" ushers in the most dynamic energy to the house. Being the color of luck and romance for Chinese, it helps to accentuate the bedroom. But if the colour is "too much" it is possible to shift to pink or magenta.

Blue: The colour of serenity and health creates miracles in the bathroom, representing water as well as the bedroom.

Green: This is the hue of health and balance, a nourishing shade to be employed in the family area, living room or home office. Varying shades of green can suck in more energy.

Orange: This is the color of communication, a social color. It brings out "lively conversations and stimulates appetite", so it helps to liven up the living room area or the kitchen.

White: The colour of purity and absorbent of all colors. This is a most satisfying colour, but some spaces in the house, such as the east or southeast wings, will be deprived of "good energy" if white dominates the house, according to About Home.
