Robert Pattinson and Kirsten Stewart have avoided each other like the plague ever since they split. New reports suggest that Pattinson skipped the Venice Film Festival to prevent a run in with his Twilight co-star.

According to IB Times, Pattinson was scheduled to attend the 72nd film festival in Venice for the screening of his film 'The Childhood of a Leader' last weekend but did not show up citing busy work schedule. Stewart was there to promote her film 'Equals' with co-star Nicholas Hoult.

Reports claim that Pattinson wanted to avoid an awkward meeting with Stewart given that much bad blood has been split between the two former lovers and that Venice is a relatively small place. His fiancé FKA Twigs has also taken a dig at Stewart in public.

Page Six which broke the news about Pattinson's plans, quoted a source in the know of things saying the busy schedule was simply an excuse.

"He didn't want the story to be all about how he and Kristen were nearly bumping into each other. Venice is very small ... and there are only so many parties and hotels," the source said who claimed Pattinson cited shooting of 'The Last City of Z' in Ireland to skip the festival.
