There was a new refugee in Louisiana Thursday morning. One alligator crawled out of a neighborhood storm drain and walked across a number of lawns before it settled down on the front porch of a family's house, according to hngn. .

A number of neighbours watched it crawling through the neighborhood for a long time, until it finally crept its way out of sight into a nearby pond. It threw them into an awe.

Jodi Luna narrated what happened.

"I saw something coming out of this drain. It was half in and half out," she said.

Luna grabbed her phone and snapped a picture.

"I thought I was watching something from the Sci-fi channel," Luna said.

The gator continued to stroll through the neighborhood and even head-banged on one family's door.

"He walked through their garden and then started banging on their door," Luna said.

Many witnesses said that officials came from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife to retrieve it, but by then it had disappeared into the pond, Fox News  reported.

It was quite a huge number---almost 10 feet in length.

Although no one knew how long it was in the drains, they knew where it had come from, according to WLOX.

"There's a canal on the other side, and it pretty much lines up here. It probably got into the pipe, came up this way and when it got, all he could do was come up," said Richard Webber.

Not all alligators should be thought to be a nuisance, even if they go to a strange neighborhood, according to the Department Of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Usually alligators that are smaller than four feet are a bit afraid of humans.
