Galaxy Note 5 Release Date and Rumors: Could Battery Become Latest Samsung Phablet's Undoing

As the much anticipated launch of Samsung's premier devices Note 5 and the S6 Edge Plus nears, word of smaller batteries comes in.

According to BGR, both the flagship devices will be powered by 3000 mAh batteries that will offer a maximum standby time of 336 hours and a 21-hour talk time. If the leaks are true, the size of the battery on Note 5 is smaller than its predecessor Note 4 which is powered by a 3,220 mAh battery. Inclusion of Quick Charge 2.0 could be one of the reasons Samsung may have opted for a smaller battery.

Slash Gear posted leaked images and reported that S Pen in Note 5 will be feature-packed. Note 5 is likely to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 or Samsung Exynos 7422 with 4 GB RAM.

Users have expressed disappoint over the reported absence of expendable storage. Variants of Note 5 with 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB with SSD are expected to be made available.

Slash Gear also reported that Note 5 will feature MHL 3 in its microUSB port, allowing use of MHL converter cables for video transmission to television screens.

Galaxy Note 5 and S6 Edge Plus are set for release at the Galaxy Unpacked 2015 event in New York on Thursday.
