Netflix was just waiting for the perfect date to renew its hit sci-fi series, "Sense8."

On Saturday, Aug 8, Netflix made the announcement by uploading a sweet birthday clip via Twitter.

In the clip, actors from the show, which was created by J. Michael Straczynski and the Wachowskis, announced that "Sense8" would be returning for a season 2. The actors also wished happy birthday to the eight main characters of the show.

Prior to the renewal announcement, Brian J. Smith, who plays Chicago cop Will Gorski, tweeted a special birthday message to the characters as well. He tweeted, "I know 8 people who have a birthday coming up. #8/8 @sense8."

Fans were starting to get worried that Netflix would be canceling the show after weeks of no updates. Netflix typically renews or cancels a show within a month. For "Sense8" however, fans had to wait two months.

Despite the show's late renewal, Straczynski had remained optimistic that the show would be back for another season. He has also revealed that they currently have a five-year story arc for the show.

"We're cautiously optimistic, but, ultimately, it's Netflix's call," Straczynski had said after the Television Critics Association panel.

"Sense8" is about eight people from different parts of the world who have been reborn as sensates. Throughout the season, the eight of them slowly learn to use each other's skills and knowledge to get out of dangerous situations. They also start to come together when some of them realize that they are being hunted.

"Sense8" premiered on June 5. There is no word on when season 2 will premiere.
