"Games of Thrones," the HBO adaptation of George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" book series is already caught up with the books' plotlines, and yet Martin still has not announced when his next book, "Winds of Winter" will be released.

The last book that Martin released dated back to 2011. That book, titled "A Dance with Dragons," was the fifth one in the seven book series. Martin had to take a break from writing after becoming super busy editing some of the scripts for "Games of Thrones." His schedule was also full with book signings and other deals.

He explained to Entertainment Weekly back in April, "I was red hot on the book and I put it aside for six months I was pushing so hard that I was writing very well. I should have just gone on from there, because I was so into it and it was moving so fast then. But I didn't because I had to switch gears into the editing phase and then the book tour. The iron does cool off, for me especially."

Without the last two books, the highly popular TV series will be forced to create its own plots for the remaining characters. It is important to note that the TV series has already deviated a lot from the books.

Martin, who started writing again, teased in the EW interview that he might add a major twist for one of the major characters.

"This is going to drive your readers crazy but I love it. I'm still weighing whether to go that direction or not. It's a great twist," he said.

Jon Snow fans are hoping that the twist might mean that the beloved character is returning to the show. Snow, played by Kit Harington, was killed off in the Season 5 finale. Despite outwardly stating that Snow is dead, fans have not given up hope.

In the interview, Martin also hinted that the book could be out sooner than people think.

"I wish it was out now. Maybe I'm being overly optimistic about how quickly I can finish. But I canceled two convention appearances, I'm turning down a lot more interviews-anything I can do to clear my decks and get this done," Martin said.

Fans are hoping the book will be released before the Season 6 premiere.
