Kanye West only performed for 13 minutes at the closing ceremony for the Pan Am Games in Toronto but boy did he impress the Canadian Crowd.

The 38-year-old rapper started off the night off with "Stronger." However, after a few more songs in his medley, his microphone started to malfunction. Instead of waiting around, West threw the mic in the air and stormed off stage.

Before West even started performing, he asked for the lights to be turned on. Once Rogers Centre was lit, West commanded the huge stadium by leaping and skipping throughout the stage. Instead of just performing his hit songs, West also acknowledged the athletes that they were celebrating that night.

West performed "Power," "Black Skinhead," "Can't Tell Me Nothing," "Gold Digger," and "Touch The Sky."

"Oh yeah, we're gonna have a good time tonight," he said right before his mic cut out. The officials later announced that there was a "technical error" during West's performance. The night ended with fireworks.

Prior to his performance, there was some controversy over the fact that West, the headliner, is not Canadian. More than 50,000 people signed a petition to replace West with a Canadian performer, such as Drake or Nelly Furtado. The petition did not stop West from performing.

The petition on Change.org read:

"The Toronto Pan Am games have proven to be very important for Torontonians this year and have triggered a unified sense of pride in our city. It would only be just to ask a proud Torontonian (or even a Canadian for that matter) in the music industry to perform, such as Drake, Walk Off The Earth, Feist, Metric, Shania Twain, deadmau5, Crystal Castles, Zeds Dead, The Weeknd, Peaches, K'naan, and many many more!

The options for Toronto artists are far from limited and choosing someone like Kanye West raises several concerns among the people. Why was a local artist or group not chosen and supported, just as our local athletes are throughout the games?"

The two-hour long ceremony honored all of the athletes, who traveled from 41 nations to compete at the games. The ceremony also included multi-cultural dances, performances by other entertainers, such as Pit bull and the handover of the Pan American Sports Organization flag to the next host city.

The next Pan Am Games will be held in Lima, Peru in 2019.
