Minions Declared As Having The Second Biggest Opening Of All Time For Animation Category

Despicable Me spin-off Minions has topped the weekend box office for two weeks now and garnered $115.2m (£74.2m) which made it to have the second biggest opening in the Animated Film category.

According to BBC, Shrek The Third released in 2007 is still in its first place for having the highest hit in the box office.

"Given that they seek to work for the most evil people on the planet, they give off this incredible happiness. I think the quality they're proving to have is a common denominator appeal across all cultures" ," Universal's Duncan Clark said referring to the Minion's success.

Minions have toppled Jurrasic Park, now on its fourth week, with $18.1m (£11.66m).

In the new Despicable Me movie, the cute, yellow, balding servants are in search of a new master. The story gets bubblier with the introduction of two new characters that took Sandra Bullock and Jon Hamm's voices.

Reviews rated the animated film with a score of 6.4 out of 10 with "mixed to average" impressions from viewers, Time said.

However, the movie has been successful in winning the hearts of everybody regardless of gender and among multiple age groups.

To date, the US box-office have accumulated more than $6bn in record time, The Guardian said.

It also boosts of a 7.8% increase of 2014 expected figures and has accounted its recent success to box office hits like Jurassic World, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Fast & Furious 7.

Meanwhile, two new movies, horror film The Gallows and Ryan Reynolds sci-fi movie, Self/Less made it to the top ten list.
