Female prison employee Joyce Mitchell lured prison guards into unwittingly helping the inmates by offering them baked food items like pastries.

According to a news report by CNN, Mitchell regularly brought baked foods for the guards in exchange for favours and went as far as to have the two now escaped killers shifted to prison cells that were just next to each other.

Mitchel who is a prison tailor in the maximum security prison, has been charged for helping the two murder convicts to escape.

She has admitted to providing David Sweat (34) and Richard Matt (48) with power tools like chisels, hacksaw blade and drills which enabled them to cut through steel walls.

Joyce had these blades hidden in hamburger meat each time she visited the inmates and managed to lure the guards away with food to prevent them from running a metal detector test.

The killers then found their way through a maze of tunnels to finally emerge out through a manhole, a short distance away from the maximum security prison's jail gate.

Before leaving, the escapees also left behind a note for the prison officials that read, 'Have a nice day.'

The attorney for Gene Palmer, the prison guard who was responsible for guarding the two killers in the honor block, has said that his client was conned by Mitchel.

Palmer on his part claims to be completely unaware about the fact that the meat contained blades.

The law enforcement in the meanwhile has organized an aggressive manhunt to capture the fleeing convicts but they have so far remained elusive.

While they did discover DNA of the prisoners in a cabin close to the prison, it remains to be seen if they will be able to finally nab the killers who have been reported missing since June 6.
