Instagram will make it easier for its users to discover what's trending on the photo-sharing app. The company will unveil a new Explore page in the US that will let users find trending tags, trending places and curated content around interests from "Extreme Athletes" to "Towering Rocks."

The curation will be led by humans rather than algorithms.

"With more than 70 million photos and videos posted to Instagram every day, wherever something is happening, chances are you can see it here. Whether it's behind the scenes at the NBA Finals, the latest fashion trend, or just catching a favourite band at a local club, people are capturing moments large and small on Instagram," the company said in a blogpost.

"But, until now, there's never been an easy way to find these moments."

The new "trending places" feature will highlight activity at festivals, sports games and museums, FT.com reported.

Instagram is also announcing a buy button, the option to install an app and a way to get users to sign up to mailing lists earlier this month. Facebook owned service said advertisers would now be able to use Facebook's infrastructure to buy Instagram adverts, including the sophisticated targeting abilities that have attracted marketers to the site.
