A Nokia-developed smartwatch, called Moonraker never saw the light of the day because Microsoft killed it for the Band, a fitness tracker/smartwatch hybrid.

The details of the Nokia smartwatch were obtained from a Tumblr blogpost by a Microsoft employee (the page is offline now).

Reportedly, the Moonraker was nearing completion around the time that Microsoft purchased Nokia's hardware business.

The Verge noted that the company had show it off to potential customers at last year's Mobile World Congress.

It's unlikely that the "Moonraker" will ever make it to the market, but given time Microsoft may want to bring some of the more fashion-related aspects of it over to the Band in the future, it added.

From the screenshots it can be noted that Nokia had obtained the familiar "Metro" interface from Windows Phone for smartwatch interface. The watch also had native support for Facebook and MixRadio, Microsoft's online radio service, Mashable noted.

Redmond-giant is now working on a second generation of its Band.
