When Rajon Rondo hits free agency in the summer, he can expect several offers on the table. Although the rumors have repeatedly claim that the point guard is headed for the Los Angeles Lakers, new rumors are surfacing that the Miami Heat might make a run at him as well.

Rondo can be a desirable asset for Pat Riley and the Heat, who are looking for a player that can replace the void LeBron James left behind when he returned to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Although Rondo could hypothetically fill James' spot, Jason Lieser of the Palm Beach Post believes that the Heat would only try to sign Rondo if they, for some reason, fail to resign Goran Dragic.

Lieser wrote, "It is highly unlikely Miami will ever reach this juncture, but if Goran Dragic does not re-sign, the team will be in scramble mode for a new point guard. One of the most proven names on the market this summer is former Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo, who wrapped up a frustrating season in Dallas by essentially checking out of the Mavericks' first-round playoff series."

Lieser added that the best play for the Heat might be to draft a point guard. The Heat have the No. 10 pick this year.

Since Rondo's stint with the Dallas Mavericks fell apart due to tensions between him and coach Rick Carlisle, the rumors that he would be headed to the Lakers heated up. Lakers star Kobe Bryant reportedly convinced Rondo to sign with the Lakers when the time comes. However, if the Heat or other teams offer Rondo competitive contracts, he could be paying elsewhere.
