A gay boy from India was reportedly forced to have sex with his mother by family in Bangalore in order to "cure" his sexuality, a gay rights group revealed.

According to the Inquisitr, gay men and lesbian women from India are often subjected to "corrective rapes," which are carried out by family members, as a form of treatment for their homosexuality.

The Daily Mail cited the Telangana LGBT Collective in Telangana, southern Indian, stating that family members will usually hand pick the relative to conduct the "corrective rape." This member tends to be a cousin. However, in this case, the act was done by the victim's mother.

"We are sure there are many more cases, but they go unreported," said Vyjayanti Mogli, a member of crisis intervention. "We came across such cases not because they reported the rape, but because they sought help to flee their homes. It's usually a cousin who's roped in for this 'project."

Mogli added, "If it is found out that she is in a relationship with another girl, elders in the family believe having sex with the 'would-be', even if it's forcibly, will cure her."

The group also stated that recent reported incidents revealed that lesbian girls are being raped by their brothers and left traumatized. After these horrid acts, these victims often do not have access to any treatments. They revealed that at least 15 corrective rapes were reported to them over the past five years.

In India, partaking in gay sex is a crime and offenders can face up to 10 years in prison. Gay rights advocates have filed petitions to change this law. However, the harsh and discriminating laws have remained the same.

Rape is also another huge issue in India. Official statistics state that roughly 25,000 rapes occur within the nation every year. Despite the amount of rape that happens, there has not been a lot of news covering it until the fatal gang rape that occurred to a woman riding the Delhi bus in December 2012.

Ever since that horrible incident, the Indian government has started to feel the pressure to address this problem and hopefully find ways to make life safer for women and men of all sexualities living in India.
