The latest installment of the "Fast and Furious" franchise will be hitting theaters on April 14, 2017. Vin Diesel announced the release date late last month at Universal Studios' CinemaCon.

"We're going to make the best movie you've ever seen," the 47-year-old actor said during his emotional speech.

After the announcement of the sequel, many rumors have popped up. Two major ones include the return of Cody Walker, Paul Walker's real-life brother and Eva Mendes. Cody filled in for Paul, who died unexpectedly while the movie was still in production, in "Furious 7." Mendes played Agent Monica Fuentes in "2 Fast 2 Furious."

*Spoilers Alert*

It is currently uncertain whether or not Jordana Brewster, who plays Mia, the wife of Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker), will return. In "Furious 7," O'Conner decided to retire from the fast cars lifestyle to take care of his family.

Rumors are also claiming that Kurt Russell, who played Mr. Nobody, will have a larger role.

There is currently no plot for the eighth movie. However, Diesel revealed during his April appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" that the movie will be set in New York.

"Kurt Russell came in for this movie," Vin Diesel said. "But we really hired him because of a story that follows this that takes place in New York."

Just one day later, Russell appeared on the show as well and talked about filming on "Furious 7."

Russell said, "We created somebody that I think is a mystery man. You never know his name. You never know quite what world he's in. And we don't, and I think that's what's exciting about it."

"Furious 7," which hit theaters in April, has grossed around $339 million domestically, according to Box Office Mojo. The worldwide box office total is just under $1.5 billion.
