Left fielder Scott Van Slyke had no chance of catching the baseball as it soared past him and out of Dodger Stadium.

In Tuesday's game between the LA Dodgers and the Miami Marlins, Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton smashed an 85-mph cutter right onto the back of the canopy in left field during the first inning. The one-run shot was the only run the Marlins posted in the 11-1 lost against the Dodgers.

"Such a loud boom, it scared me," Manny Colon, the Marlins' traveling secretary, said according to the Miami Herald. The home run shot ended up on the walkway where Colon was standing.

ESPN Stats & Information calculated the hit at 467 feet with the speed at 115 mph. It was the longest shot hit in the majors this season so far.

"Where was I going to go, try and catch it?" Van Slyke asked. Van Slyke did not even take one step toward the high-soaring ball.

The homer was one of the longest ones ever hit at the 53-year-old stadium.

"That's the hardest ball I've ever seen hit against me ... well, I take that back. His last ball he hit against me was probably the hardest ball," Dodgers starter, Mike Bolsinger said in regards to Stanton's sixth inning single. "You've got to just look back and go, 'That's awesome,' and just go on with the game."

Marlins manager Mike Redmond said, "He's hit a couple like that in batting practice and man, he hammered that thing. I just wish we could've tacked on a few more."

The longest home run ever hit at Dodger Stadium occurred in 1969 when Hall of Famer Willie Stargell blasted one off of Alan Foster that traveled 506 feet. Only two other players - Mark McGwire and Mike Piazza - have hit a homer that cleared the bleachers at the stadium.
