D.J Swearinger is no longer a Houston Texan.

The safety uploaded a post on Instagram, bidding farewell to the team with a caption that read: "One heck of an opportunity #texannation I appreciate everything and the opportunity and memories!! It's time for a new chapter and the defining moment of my career!! So long #HOUSTONTEXANS."

The Texans reportedly wanted to trade Swearinger before the 2015 NFL Draft. Swearinger was reportedly released after the team failed to find a trade partner.

Swearinger was selected by the Texans in the second round of the 2013 NFL draft. According to ESPN.com, Swearinger was one of only three draftees from that class to see snaps during regular season games in Houston. The other two were receiver DeAndre Hopkins and tight end Ryan Griffin.

In 2014, Swearinger started 12 games and came in as a sub in the other four. His playtime fell later on in the season when the Texans decided to rely more on Danieal Manning. In his career as a Texan, Swearinger recorded 144 combined tackles, one sack, three interceptions and 10 pass deflections.

Despite starting in a significant number of games over the past two seasons, Swearinger struggled. Pro Football Focus ranked him the No. 78 safety out of a total of 87 in 2014 and No. 71 out of 86 in 2013, NFL.com reported.

During his years at the University of South Carolina, Swearinger started 33 out of 52 games that he appeared in. He recorded 244 tackles, six interceptions and three touchdowns. After his senior season in 2012, he was selected second-team All-Southeastern Conference.
