Meryl Streep is well known for her brilliant acting skills which has been validated by numerous Academy award nominations. However, the actress' latest movie "Ricki And The Flash" portrays her in a way that we've never seen her before.

The 65-year-old plays Ricki Rendazzo, "a guitar heroine who made a world of mistakes as she followed her dreams of rock 'n' roll stardom" in the upcoming flick, and she even went to rock star boot camp to prepare for the role.

The film stars Meryl Streep, Mamie Gummer (Streep's daughter), Kevin Kline (as Streep's ex-husband), Sebastian Stan, Rick Springfield, Audra McDonald and Ben Platt.

The mother-daughter duo has appeared together on-screen before - in 1986 film Heartburn and also in 2007 drama Evening.

According to IMDb, here is the official synopsis:

"Three-time Academy Award winner Meryl Streep goes electric and takes on a whole new gig - a hard-rocking singer/guitarist - for Oscar-winning director Jonathan Demme and Academy Award®-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody in the uplifting comedy Ricki and the Flash. In a film loaded with music and live performance, Streep stars as Ricki, a guitar heroine who gave up everything for her dream of rock-and-roll stardom, but is now returning home to make things right with her family. Streep stars opposite her real-life daughter Mamie Gummer, who plays her fictional daughter; Rick Springfield, who takes on the role of a Flash member in love with Ricki; and Kevin Kline, who portrays Ricki's long-suffering ex-husband."

Ricki And The Flash hits cinemas on August 7.
