Joni Mitchell is not in a coma, reps wrote in the artist's official website.

Confusion over the singer's actual condition sprang up when TMZ obtained documents from her close friend, Leslie Morris, 44, who wants to file a conservatorship over the patient as the latter has no close relatives who could take care of her.

A screenshot of the document from the news outlet also said that the Big Yellow Taxi singer has been unconscious and is 'unable to make responses' at the UCLA medical hospital where she has been admitted since March 31.

This has been supported by another report from Billboard saying that Mitchell's condition is "far worse than the public was led to believe, with one insider alleging, 'It's very serious.'"

However, according to Consequence of Sound, reps maintaining the artist's site refuted earlier statement released by TMZ.

"Contrary to rumors circulating on the Internet today, Joni is not in a coma. Joni is still in the hospital - but she comprehends, she's alert, and she has her full senses. A full recovery is expected," the announcement goes.

Joni Mitchell's rep further said that Morris' asking for conservatorship merely puts her in-charged to make 'care decisions' for her friend.

"As we all know, Joni is a strong-willed woman and is nowhere near giving up the fight. Please continue to keep Joni in your thoughts. You may add your well wishes for her at the website WeLoveYouJoni.com," the site said.

According to USA Today, Leslie Morris has been close to Joni Mitchell since the 1970s. Morris, a music contractor, has scored films including The Help, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and Cinderella Man.
