Facebook has introduced video calling feature on its mobile messaging platform, Messenger. The feature would allow users to chat face-to-face with their friends by tapping a single button inside the Messenger app.

The new feature pits app against similar products like Google Hangouts, Microsoft's Skype and Apple's FaceTime.

Stan Chudnovsky, Facebook's VP of growth and global strategy, said that the focus of Facebook's developers was on making video work well on relatively low-bandwidth cell networks and, therefore, the feature works over both LTE and Wi-Fi connections.

In order to make a call, users simply need to tap the camera icon and during the call they can switch between the front-facing and rear camera or even turn off the camera completely.

However, the app is only available in few countries including UK, USA, Canada and France.

Facebook's Messenger app already has 600 million monthly active users and attribute to around 10 percent of all internet-based phone calls. The new feature is expected to provide further considerable momentum.
