Sharp Introduces World's First 4K Smartphone Display

Sharp has introduced world's first 4K display for smartphones that offers a resolution 806 pixels per inch. The display was launched in Shanghai at a Sharp conference.

For comparison, Apple iPhone 6's full HD screen has 401 pixels per inch while LG's G3 sports 538 pixels per inch on its 2K/QHD screen.

However, according to experts a 4K screen on smartphone is not users need. The human eye is only capable of recognizing changes in sharpness up to around 300 pixels per inch and above that, added value is increasingly reduced.

The 4K displays, however will make it possible to display more information on smaller screen while supporting the new augmented reality applications.

The company expects to start production of the 4K screen in 2016 and it is expected to take at least another year after that before phone with the display reach market.

Meanwhile, Vizio yesterday launched its second Ultra HD TV lineup, offering a range of screen sizes from 43 to 80 inches, with prices starting at just $600 all the way up to $4,000.
