Facebook has launched a new web app for its Messenger app that makes it easier to chat without getting distracted into Facebook's other features. However, to use the standalone web application you still need an account.

Like the mobile app, the Messenger app for Web allows you to set up notifications and mute conversations. The in-browser app also lets you send stickers, photos and emojis.

According to industry insiders, this could be another step for Facebook to separate out more of its services like Newsfeed.

Notably, the application doesn't contain any advertisements yet, which should please some anti-advert users.

To use Messenger, simply visit messenger.com and login with your Facebook account.
