Although the highly anticipated remake of "Mad Max: Fury Road" has not come out yet, leading actor Tom Hardy believes that there will be a sequel within the near future.

"I have no shadow of doubt in my mind that we'll be going on again with this," Hardy said in a recent interview with Total Film Magazine, reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

The 37-year-old actor acknowledged that any talks about a sequel would be dependent on how the movie is received. However, he remained optimistic that the movie will open big in the box office.

"Mad Max: Fury Road" opens domestically on May 15, two weeks after the superhero film, "The Avengers: Age of Ultron," comes out.

In the interview, Hardy also talked about his connection to the character, Mad Max.

"By the time I was 15, 16, 17, I got a dog called Mad Max. He was given to me actually. They said, 'His name is Mad Max,' and I changed the name to Maximoose," Hardy said. "[He was a] black dog, pit bull cross Labrador. Brilliant dog. He died the year that I made Max. There's a certain linear sort of coincidence as to how I feel about this now that I've ended up playing him."

George Miller's action/thriller "Mad Max" was first released in 1980. The plot followed Max Rockatansky's (Mel Gibson) journey as he sought revenge against the gang that murdered his wife and son. The movie takes place in a dystopian future where the law and order in the world is breaking down due to an energy crisis.

IMDB.com's description of the remake reads: "In a post-apocalyptic world, in which people fight to the death, Max teams up with a mysterious woman, Furiousa, to try and survive."

The film also stars Charlize Theron, Zoe Kravitz, Rosie Huntington Whiteley and Nicholas Hoult.
